The Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), located within the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, assists efforts to expand political participation, strengthen civil society and the rule of law, empower women and youth, create educational opportunities, and foster economic reform throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Higher Education for Development
Higher Education for Development works in close partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the nation’s six presidential higher education associations to support the involvement of higher education in development issues worldwide.
United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF)
UNDEF was established by the Secretary-General in July 2005 as a United Nations General Trust Fund, with the primary purpose of supporting democratization around the world. It supports projects that strengthen the voice of civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in democratic processes.
